The Baxter Inn Bar

In Sydney there's a weird obsession for pocket bars with small doors, hidden in tiny lanes or down suspicious stairs. One of them is The Baxter Inn, open between 4pm and 1am, found in an alley on Clarence Street. There is no better way to describe this savvy haven like Time Out Sydney does; "Baxter Inn is a candle-lit basement bar with thick carpet, jazz and blues and toilets with some of the best acoustics in town".

Baxter Inn is the brother bar to the Shady Pines Saloon and Tio's. The Shady Pines Saloon is the home to country music, plenty of Jack Daniels and complementary almonds. Tio's has a Mexican theme and specialises in tequila, jalapeno chillies, Mexican shrines and complementary spicy popcorn. The Baxter Inn is the classy laneway bar with an old Western feel. The friendly and professional bartenders look smart in their buttoned-up-shirt-with-a-bow-and-suspenders attire.

The whiskey focused collection behind the main bar is the catalyst for creating the atmosphere of the bar. There are 360 different whiskeys stocked, to be exact. Their most popular drink for casuals and bar explorers is the freshly squeezed apple juice and whiskey.

However, whiskey is not the only drink choice served here, there are also a limited number of wines and cocktails and they suit any wallet size. The complementary snacks served are pretzels, and while you eat, chat and have a few drinks, you can enjoy the view they have set up. There are several black and white photographs on the wood and brick walls, a grandfather clock and overall classy authentic feel.
